Tutorial: Headband Holder

I was officially tired of trying to stuff all of my little girl's headbands into a bathroom drawer, when I thought of making one out of an oatmeal container. And yes, there are other ways to make headband holders, but I didn't want to spend any money! My directions are a bit vague but this is pretty much self-explanatory with the pictures. So here's how I did it:

Supplies: Oatmeal container, hot glue gun, fabric scissors, piece of cardboard, ribbon, and half yard of fabric 

 1. Lay out your fabric and leave some extra on the ends, then cut. 

2. Put some hot glue on the fabric end and stick it to the oatmeal container.  

3. Wrap the fabric around and glue it to the container again. I folded the end so there wouldn't be a raw edge that could potentially fray. 

4. While you have your hot glue out, wrap fabric around your cardboard square. This is to keep your container from rolling around. I also thought of putting something heavy inside your container before you wrap it so if you want that option scratch this idea :) 

5. Hot glue the cardboard piece to the bottom of the container. I put it right on the seam.  

6. Now tie the ends with ribbon like a piece of candy. I did little bows. 

There you have it, a headband display! 

Denim Flowers

After hemming a pair of jeans, I had about 3 - 4 inches of denim left and thought; surely there's something I can make with this! So I cut three different sizes of circles, stitched on a button, and kabam! 

I made seven little flowers to put on clips for my hair, my daughter's hair, or a headband. 

Or I can stitch them onto a shirt, a hat, a decorative towel, or onto a quilt top. 

I used quilter's thread to put on the buttons because it is thicker/stronger and therefore you don't need to thread through the button as much to make sure it holds.

Here are the clips I bought: I bought these kind of clips because they lay more flat against a head & head band. Hot glue works to attach the flowers - but I used super glue.

 I think it will work better, if not I'll let you know!

The denim will fray a little sooner or later, but will only add to the cuteness of these flowers.

3 Step No-Sew Headbands

I debated whether or not this could really be put up on my blog...seeing as how there's no sewing involved! But it's such a great idea and easy process that I had to post about it. The size of this headband is for infants/toddlers. They are my favorite headbands to put on my daughter because they don't squeeze her head and the nylon is so soft on her skin!

1. Take an old or new nylon sock

2. Bring the two ends together and tuck the toe part into the opening on the other side. Then fold that in half. Put in a dab of hot glue into the middle and press (hot glue will seep through the layers since nylon is so thin).

3. Simply add your flower with another dab of hot glue! You can also put on a bow, lots of ribbon, a bead in the middle of the flower (as shown below), or little strips of fabric. I like adding the "pretties" to the middle - like anything that resembles a bracket so you can just punch through the flower and you're done! Remember to add those types of things before you hot glue the flower on.
